Metanoia
I suppose I’ll forever be changed
I guess I’ll never forget
The image of your broad, strong shoulders
Turned away, as you departed.
I’ll never forget the relief
I felt as I exhaled the smog
You had contaminated my body with-
That was fleeing as you left.
I almost wish you had forgotten
All that I did for you
The life I unwillingly gave
To benefit your own.
Because you had a change of heart
You decided against letting me be
And that moment I remember so fondly
Meant nothing with your return.
But I will always hold that memory close
I’ll always cling to that feeling
The way my heart rested as you turned away
And the hope of a life without you.
