Manifest Destiny,

The belief that it is acceptable to take whatever we want while leaving destruction in our wake.

Because that is what we will say we are taught.

The "Destiny"

to claim the land as yours because the people who are already on it haven't ruined it enough.

The belief that if you kill enough people on that same land,

and soak it with the blood of children who never raised a sword or fist against you,

That land suddenly becomes yours

We believe that we own the land,

As if you can tame the seasons and silence the volcanoes.

And those who believe otherwise?

We killed them when we stole the land.
