make love with the sea

nothing will ever be more absolutely
frightening
than the way the ocean
kissed your lips twice as gently

as i did.

water and comets and tragic words
you'd not yet told me --
not yet written for me to find all these years later --
filled your lungs, but they were twice as overpowering
as my efforts to force air and life
and love
back in.

your soul left your eyes
and made love to the sea
in the way only dead men can.
