A Love Poem For Poetry

you are the place where the sand meets the water,

where i can feel the earth’s breath flowing through my hair -

sea salt on my tongue the moment a wave submerges me,

laughter before i have the chance to breathe again.

you are the spark that shoots out when i light a bonfire,

when i look around at the people i love and notice an ache -

the burn on my skin the moment i step into the sun,

the bleeding of my soul calling, calling for the chance to write.

you are Poetry - the sound of your name embodies its very essence,

captures me in a trance (you

capture

me

in a trance).

when the rest of my world turns its back,

i remember you and i remember

the way i hold a pen to lined paper,

the way i cry onto your shoulder,

the way i read you over and over,

the way i fall asleep as a content lover

when i am left alone, undesired,

i think of you and i think of

how you are my only love,

how you have words of comfort

to ease all of my sorrows

and make me realize:

i need not a physical being to love

when i have the words to create the very feeling myself, and

i need not a friend

when i have you to spend my time with.
