Love is... ?

A life well lived is a full life of pain

Physical, mental and heartfelt gain

Highest of high and lowest of low

Weeks that ebb and years that flow

Time flitters fast as days fly past

But what is love if love does not last?

Is it a sham, just a chemical reaction

As a moth to a flame, a fatal attraction

Or is it just a maelstrom of human emotion

An exquisite passion of intoxication

When a terrifying new dipping of the toe

vulnerably puts tender hearts on show

Do we mellow with a lifetime partner

Or must we still strive just that bit harder

‘Tis simply too easy to allow one to fail

letting love grow stale as we traverse lives trail

Is adoration the love that follows budding romance

Can surely not be something governed by chance

Endearment can remain after a partner’s transition

Proving love is much more than mere infatuation

So, what is this desire for such infinite affection

Searching for that someone with to forge a connection

But just as peace is defined by the white dove

Forlorn grief is the price we pay for true love
