A Look Down the Line
Who am I? Well I don’t have a complete answer to this question but I will try my best to give you that answer. I’ll give it to you by year.
I am the baby who at age 1 grew in the arms of faith and Puertorican wisdom,
I am the prince who at age 2 was surrounded by family in his own island kingdom.
I am the traveler who at 3 years old flew to the land of the brave and the free,
I am the scholar who at age 4 learned English words such as yellow and tree.
I am the imp who at 5 was intriuged and fascinated by anything and everything,
I am the bookworm who at age 6 would dive into books looking for the stories it would bring.
I am the boy who at 7 had to take care of his family when his father went away,
I am the son who at age 8 spent time with his father when he came back after war and found games to play.
I am the jokester who at age 9 found friends with a smile and looked at life with ease,
I am the figment who at age 10 left the sunny shores and went up to Virginia trying to find someone to please.
I am the cupid who at age 11 thought he could fix and work with love in his new school,
I am the loner who at age 12 retreated into himself when he was thrown into a new social pool.
I am the writer who at age 13 thought of words and worlds far beyond his own,
I am the nerd who at age 14 went to a special program for the gifted and hardworking prone.
I am the homosexual who at age 15 took his first step out of the closet-no longer afraid to be killed,
I am the actor who at age 16 found a use for the masks he made that were no longer grief filled.
I am the eldest who at age 17 finally understood what it meant to be a brother,
I am the friend who at age 18 is going to a funeral to support the people who need one another.
I am a puzzle, I am a story, I am a painting, I am a graveyard, I am a shadow, I am a king, and I am a fool.
In the end, I guess I’m only a growing person.
Who is learning a surprisingly new, yet simple lesson.
I’ve discovered it, now I can finally see,
What it actually means to be me.
