Longing For Normal

Remember our past lives

Remember the dread of school

Remember the dread of homework

Remember the dread of test

I miss it

Remembering the joy the friends

Their smiles at the lunch table

The wit of our teachers

The joy of being a teenager

Stripped away in weeks

Longing for the outside world

The hope of summer withering away

The grief of the world

Is there any hope left?

Wanting to reach out

But staying back because of love

We’ll have our day in the sun

A month

Or

5 months

Or

Maybe a year

We will dance

We will hug

We will laugh

This will be a distant but painful memory

We will continue to grieve the ones who were lost

While rejoicing with the ones who have stayed
