THIS LONESOME NEST

This Lonesome Nest: by Paul Gray

Like ink the night hath filled our nest
The day has now withdrawn
While I alone in this our bed
Anticipate the dawn

I summon dreams of you and me
Yet sadly they recede
Reminding me like yesterday
I'm here alone indeed

Would that one night revisit us
When twixt these sheets and spread
Our love, alive with frolic sweet
Still bloomed here in our bed

Yet such despair of mem'ries loss
Still beckon me to weep
As loneliness all through the night
Restrains me from my sleep

Perhaps in dreams I'll snuggle close
And in your bosom rest
As for the dawn with faith I wait
Here in this lonesome nest
