Lonely

Maybe you don’t like being sad.

When tears

Insist

On being shed

When pain

Blossoms

Into your veins

When darkness

Sates

Your thirst for emotion

But I do.

And maybe you don’t like the rain.

When clouds

Collapse

Against your cheeks

When thunder

Vibrates

Straight through your bones

When lightning

Burns

Patterns into your eyelids

But I do.

And maybe you don’t like being lonely.

When alone

Defines

Everything you are

When solitude

Demands

To be thoroughly enjoyed

When silence

Is the only acceptable companion

But I do.
