The Light

Forward, into the gloom

of a life full of dread,

despair, and heartache

until we leave through death,

I wandered, directionless.

I seemed to hear a whisper,

a gentle sound, beckoning

to move in a certain direction.

I heeded that voice, not knowing

whether it would lead me to a

better situation or deeper into despair.

As I continued, straining my ears

To hear that voice, I suddenly saw

A light. A beautiful light

purer than the sun, that warmed

my souls with its touch.

As I grew closer, I could hear

the voice more clearly, saying:

”Follow the sun.” I continued

toward the light, but I did not understand

the spoken words. Closer and

 closer I drew, reaching for

the warmth that drew me

forward, until I realized

my despair and fear were gone.

My pain remained, but it seemed

to strengthen me as I walked,

allowing me to keep going.

I stumbled, then crawled forward,

every muscle aching and straining

to reach that beautiful light,

the light that allowed me to truly live.

Soon I realized that the light

I was striving for, straining for,

was not only a light, but the Light,

the Light of the world, the Son

of the Living God, who had spoken

before, yet I had not understood.

Now I understood, and could reach

with purpose toward the One who could change me forever.
