A Lifetime

Ask her what she is.

She will say she is nothing.

You will say she is something.

But in truth all those insecurities lie within.

A lifetime

Of abuse.

A lifetime

Of pain.

A lifetime

Of suffering.

Cause all her life she has suffered.

You see, deep down she feels worthless.

She says she’s ugly

You say she is beautiful.

She says she’s worthless

You tell her she isn’t.

She says she’s insecure.

You say what for.

I’ll tell you what for.

She’s insecure because:

Her scars.

Her stretch marks.

Her large stomach.

Her large thighs.

Her inability to process.

Because when she was younger

That’s all anyone pointed out.

It’s all anyone would mention.

No one mentioned that she was a genius.

No one mentioned she was beautiful.

Everyone pointed out her flaws

But no one ever pointed out the truth.

So that’s why she says she’s nothing.

Because she has been shamed all her life

For everything that is wrong with her.
