A Life In A Day

I had such a good day and went to bed late

After turning sixteen and been out with my mates

But when I awoke, something was wrong

I got up to find part of my life had gone

I looked in the mirror and got a terrible fright

I had grown a full beard seemingly overnight

After breakfast I went to get ready for school

A voice said, “You’re late for work, you silly old fool”

I turned around and a strange woman was there

She said she was my wife, and her name was Clare

Lunch arrived just as my first son appeared

My youth had gone and middle age felt weird

Afternoon tea and my hair had suddenly turned grey

No cream biscuits now, I had to watch what I weigh

I was dreading dinner and what it would bring

The speed of life passing caused my head to unstring

What the hell happened, it was just a blink of my eye

The years had flown,  an inattentive truth to decry

I'd just turned sixteen and thought I was free

Now my young son has his own upon his knee...

Just a nightcap before I go one last time to bed

A sipper of port as I try to get it out of my head

The end of existence, it's something I dread

I just know that tomorrow I will wake up .......

I know you all thought I would say 'dead'!!

HAHA ...I was going to say ....."sixteen instead"
