Life of contradiction, an Italian Sonnet

What a funny thing life is.

We see it passing day after endless day,

yet time is short and it ends so abruptly.

We must go where life leads us or by us it passes,

but take charge of our lives least the result be disastrous.

In all things be on time or better still be early.

And still, to be late is fashionable. Is that not what they say?

Such is life with its many paradoxes.

You may ask how to travel such a path.

How on two roads you may be at once walking.

But you would be asking in vain for I have not the key.

For years you can for friends be searching,

who might pull you up on their raft.

But no one can live your life but thee.
