Let It Out

Growing up is about the obvious.

It’s about putting on makeup and wearing lower cut shirts.

It’s about going out without mom and dad’s permission,

Staying out late and feeling free.

Buying your own groceries,

Remembering to feed the cat.

Moving out,

Going to college,

Reaching the long sought-after age of 18,

And then finally becoming 21.

Growing up is hard for some,

But welcome to adulting.

Sometimes, growing up is much less obvious.

It’s about facing your problems,

Accepting your conditions.

Realizing that the treatment to depression,

Is as simple as telling someone rather than keeping it bottled up.

Opening up for that first time,

That’s one of the hardest things to do.

It takes self-growth,

Trust,

And maturity.

It’s not the cure,

But it’s the first step.

Expressing one’s emotions,

That’s the key.

That’s the thing they don’t tell you

Is the key to growing up;

It's the key to overcoming.

After that,

It gets better.

It doesn’t ever get good,

But it gets better.

Let yourself cry,

Let yourself feel;

It’s so scary at first,

But it’s worth it.

Don’t hold back anymore,

Don’t pretend like everything is okay,

You know it isn’t.

Tell mom, tell a friend, tell a partner.

Tell anyone, let it all out.

They always say,

Hush little baby don’t you cry,

But baby you’ve grown up,

And it’s so good to cry.

It's so good to talk,

To tell someone.

So baby,

It's time to grow up.

It's time to face your problems.

No more hiding,

No more pretending.

Growing up is about facing reality,

Coming to terms with who you are,

Who you were born as.

Life doesn’t necessarily get easy,

Especially once you grow up,

But there’s a whole lot of good in life that gets overlooked.

There's a whole lot of good in you.
