The Leaves Fall
The leaves fall as I walk under the trees,
My eyes crinkling against the crisp, cool breeze.
I pause, and time seems to stand still,
As I become hypnotized by the fiery leaves, until
A rustling sound stirs up in me some unease.
The trees around me begin to breathe with a wheeze,
Infected by some cruel and colorful disease.
I see decay and death, and I wonder how long will
The leaves fall?
My arms and legs begin to seize
Up and the air around me has begun to freeze.
The very earth is shivering and ill,
Caught up in an endless chill.
I watch in slow and small degrees,
The leaves fall.
