Lamentation: The Wife Of A Veteran Revised

Whom are we waiting for?

Whom are we waiting for?

For John we are waiting for?

He has traveled on a journey

To a land of limited return

He has gone to serve his country

To a market place of no return

For john we are waiting for?

This land he has gone to,

Is crying

Its tears are flowing

Like Niagara Falls only

This time with talents and dreams

Within it,

He has gone to join his comrades

Soiling his hands like they in this Niagara Falls

Of dreams and talents,

Dreams and talents in the streams of death.

 Death what is thy power?

Death where is thy strength?

Death what right has you?

To touch the intangible

To see the unseeable

To hear the unheard

My husband is the embodiment of unseen, unheard, untouched

Or so I thought.

You’ve made mourning my hobby

Mourning for the unexpected that may come

But for john we are waiting for?

For whom are we waiting for?

For John we are waiting for?

John every time we say goodbye

It’s a whole new drama all again,

Filled with emotions,

Every time we say good bye

The sounds of cricket creaking and frogs grunting

Take your place in our home

Like a shadow with life

Your memory lives in our hearts

For John, we are waiting for.
