Intro to Poetry

Textbook in hand

Computer within reach

It began

Little did I know

That

Intro to Literature

Would be

My Intro to poetry

With a hunger

I devoured

Each word

Homework

Wasn’t work

It was leisure

Lines

Stuck in my head

Do not

Go gentle

Into that good night

Once upon

A midnight dreary

While I pondered

Weak

And weary

Pile

The bodies

High at Austerlitz

Thomas, Poe

Sandburg

Tennyson, Dickinson

Cummings

And more

Floating

Within my head

And heart

One day

Upset and worn

I needed to vent

To let go

To release

So my hand

Reached beside me

And grabbed

Words began flowing

Onto the paper

My pencil moving

Emotions pouring

Into the page

Now writing

And reading

Poetry is an escape

Little did I know

That Intro to Lit

Would be

My Intro to poetry

And so it began

This poem is about:
Me
