inspiration

I looked in the closet, spirits rising, hoping to find it
it wasn't there so I looked in the clouds of the night
The moon said, "No, try again"

So instead I waited until morning broke and looked to the sun in all its glory
But it looked to me and said"Sorry no"

So I looked down to the ground with a dejected spirit
I asked the grass"Do you have what I've been looking for?"
There was no reply

So I moved along
I kicked a stone with the toe of my shoe ready to give up rather than look up

And then I found it
not in the sky, not in the moon, not in the brightness of the sun, the green of the grass, the sigh of the stone

Instead it was swirling around me as in out out I breathed
For the key was to listen and not to look
to feel and not to touch

I turned to the unseen and found the unexpected
a ray of hope, a drop of inspiration, with the lift of my pen I unlocked it and let the words flow.
