You say no
you say i'm not good enough
But I say I am

You say look at him
his skin
his single mother
his sister who survived living on the streets
he is who we want

but look at me
my skin
my parents who love each other
my father who works endlessly
endlessly to create a better life for me
a better life for me and my sisters

no. I'm not
black,
Asian,
American Indian,
Indian,
Pacific Islander,
Other

I am white.
My people have not suffered injustice
injustice in the past
but you say i haven't felt pain?
you think because i have not been struck down
that i am not good enough?

does that mean I can't empathize with a fellow
human being?

The way to annihilate prejudice is to
decide that everyone is equal
the blacks, the Asians, the American Indians, the Pacific Islanders

the whites.

I am good, I am great
and all you see is i am white

I am smart, I am funny
and all you see is he is black

so you decide you don't want me
you decide i am less than him

and the cycle begins with a new race along the bottom
along the grottoes and the ghettoes
among those other whites who were
too white to be accepted
