If You Could Read My Mind

If you could read my mind
You would feel my hands trembling
And my body aching
My soul burying
What my heart’s not taking

You would feel my veins running cold
With the pain of the unknown
And my mouth going dry
From the words that have arrived

You would see my head drained
And my eyes growing tired
From thoughts spinning
Through nights left wired

You would see me looking at you
And everyone around us
Wanting to never share this
Or wish upon anyone else

But if you keep reading
You would see
That I’m okay
With what has come to be

I wouldn’t change it
Even if I could
Because we aren’t handed
Things that aren’t good

I will learn from this mess
In some way or another
So give me your best shot
You mother ------.
