If I Was There

Once upon a time.

I had a best friend

Her name was very common but

I think it wasn't then.

She was a pretty girl

Of the age seventeen

She'd be a ballerina

And twirl around and sing.

One day when she practiced

For that ballerina contest

She found herself being laughed at

And told her they were honest:

"You're such a stupid girl

you can't properly twirl

If I were you I'd kill myself

and help the world out."

She was desimated by

the words said, she cried:
"Well if that's the way you think it is

I best be going then!"

She came to me and said

"They think Im better off dead!"

I told her she was over-reacting

That in skill, she wasn't lacking.

A few months went by

The bullying made her cry.

She began to wear long sleeves

Even with Summer trees.

One day she had enough

She felt life was too rough.

If only I was there to save her

She'd still be here today.

Take this poem strongly

With the words I write down here.

If you ever have a best friend.

Be sure to hold them dear.

Help them when life is bad

Don't ever become mad

And if you're a bully
I'm going to say this truly.

Give a hug and a smile

Make your life worthwhile.

So with this I must go,

A grief I haven't sown

Take my words with tender care

and think about where she'd be

If I was there.
