If I hadn't known

I once was happy with my lot

I didn’t know any better

I once was a person people forgot

only used as a lever

until finer things came along

i’d seen a whole nother light

and what I had before

was nothing compared to this new sight

but this new found grace

didn’t last as long as i’d liked

and so I turned my face

when I get less psyched

before I was ignorant

didn’t know what I had was bad

till I got something better

now i’m stuck with what I had

knowing what i’m missing

it’s the most unbearable pain

the things that i’m now listing

I say in overpowering shame
