Ice sat heavily on my

Ice sat heavily on my heart the day he left,

3 months, he said, everyone said it wasn’t so long.

I sat alone in the house where we had made our life together,

For two weeks, and then they told me to leave, the storm was too strong.

I stayed in houses that were not mine, one after another,

New faces, new places, new homes, not mine,

Alone, I sat in people’s houses and I tried to breathe,

I wanted to cry and I wanted to scream,

But instead I sat in silence, frozen to the core, unable to leave.
