Icarus' Dream

Daedalus survived aboard a station
In the dark void of space
His son, Icarus, felt immense elation
As he worked alongside him at a faster pace Today they could see the red giant
Up close and personal
He could finally experience something
That wasn't artificial He was sheltered from danger
Daedalus had protected him for so long
Icarus wanted to know something stranger
Than his familiar window, oblong Of all the dreams in the universe
Icarus had only one
To be known as the first
To touch the sun When the time came to walk on air
Icarus surged on to achieve his dream
Daedalus turned and saw he was not there
His son had not realized his suit had a torn seam He would have to pay the priceThe foolhardy boy wanted to reach the starBut in his childish avarice It was too late - he had gone too far.
