I Wouldn’t be Surprised
I wouldn’t be surprised
If I ever died
Due to arms belonging to my own kind
But I know before I die
Once I pray the pain subsides
I’ll have everything on my mind
Loved ones
Mother
Father
Sister
Brother
Future
Goodbye
Family abandoned
Stories lost
Opportunities
Experiences
Future
Gone.
My future kids will no longer exist
However, they too will be missed
I wouldn’t be confused
Because by now I know the extreme things the second amendment could let people do
I wouldn’t even try
Because there is nothing I could do but hide
Under my only protection—a bulletproof desk
As though that would save my life
Mortality lost
All because of a crazed man
My youth will forever be youthful
It can no longer grow
I can grow no more.
I wouldn’t be surprised if I died in a school shooting
But I shouldn’t.
