I Wonder

I wonder if one cloudless night

I suddenly decided to take up flight

I'd soar up to the highest height

Until I reached the stars.

I wonder if I didn't need air

Would I be fit to live up there

Or if someone would even care

That from them, I am far.

I wonder if I could live in

The dark depths of Lake Michigan

I'd love be by fish again

And own some fancy gills.

I wonder if when I am grown

I'll have a mansion of my own

I'd put a cat on every stone

And every windowsill.

Day and night I "wonder if"

About somethings like space and cliffs

I think I have a special gift

To imagine places I've never been.

So when the sun is going down

And the house is dark without a sound

If you see me, I am bound

To be wandering again.
