I Still Love H.E.R

I met this girl when I was 12 years old
And what I loved most she had so much soul
Misunderstood chick; didn't know bout her much
She struck me with her voice and blew me with her touch
At first I was skeptical, but she pulled me with her spell
She told me she could teach me, that she had a story to tell
As I grew older, I wanted to get to know her more
She had an aura about her that made you want to explore
Turns out she was from the streets; a New York girl
She had messages that would spread all across the world
One day I stared at her, saw she had some bruises
She got hit by the naive and attacked by the clueless
But I grew to love her, I wanted her to be my queen
Loved how she abided by her motto, C.R.E.A.M
And even though the cracks in her were easy to find
I loved how she lived with the New York State of mind
..................................................................................................
There's only one thing that
I always need you to know
This girl may be flawed
But I swear that I'll never let her go
And as long as I live
My love for H.E.R will forever show
................................................................................................
Me and her decided to spend more time together
Whether I was healthy, or feeling under the weather
She loved telling stories, and I loved to listen
When she spoke, I'd get struck with tunnel vision
She told me stories about "that thing," and pulling triggers
Told me stories about love, and to look out for gold diggers
It made me see The Light, and how it was Common
Told me about how It Was a Good Day, not many understood our jargon
Any time I was depressed, or fell through hard times
She would always be there, made me feel better with her rhymes
She was amazing; beauty personified
Some say she didn't want to be saved, but many certainly tried
She didn't discriminate; color wasn't an issue
Because like blacks, others lived the Hard Knock Life too.
I'll always love H.E.R and she'll always be there for me
She lives by her acronym which stands for Rhythm And Poetry.
............................................................................................................
There's only one thing that
I always need you to know
This girl may be flawed
But I swear that I'll never let her go
And as long as I live
My love for H.E.R will forever show
