I Have Lived but Who am I?
I Have Lived but Who am I?
Even at this young age, I have lived more than most
I have lived in poverty
I have witnessed both of my parents dying due to AIDS
I have nearly starved
I have been separated from my siblings
I have had to take care of myself
All of the above was done by the age of five
That was the way I was introduced to the world
But that was only my first life
Even at this young age, I have lived more than most
I was adopted by a white loving family who gave a brown girl a home
I was loved and nurtured from that moment on
I was fanatic about sports
I was an American teenage girl
Even at this young age, I have lived more than most
I have witnessed both worlds
Poverty to middle class and my worlds sure have clashed
But all these things I write, are mere circumstances
Which have shaped who I’m becoming
As for who I am
I do not think I’ve lived enough lives
To have the answer to that
I just know I am who ever you are not
Even at this young age, I have lived more than most
