i couldn't get it out of my head
glass jawed girls got in fights on the playground
the next street down,
"we never tried to hurt no one, just a little rough house fun"
they told the cops when they'd shine their lights,
glinting off of black eyes and bloody noses
but little hands made mighty fists
behind the forces' back.
they never saw me, on the swingset with
my sketchbook and teary eyes,
but i'm not one to intervene,
just praying that they're safe.
do what you want, just
be safe.
i never meant to hurt no one.
