I Am Standing Fourteen Years Younger

I am standing at home plate
Wielding my bat like a sword
Sporting my A's uniform like a knight's armor
I am standing in front of the oven
Guarding twelve chocolate squares as if they were blocks of gold
With a broomstick that I pretend is a spear

I am standing at the top of the slide
Proclaiming I am King of the World
And my first decree is pizza for everyone
I am standing in the mud while rain is pouring
Choosing out a pumpkin to carve for Halloween
Eenie meenie miney mo

I am standing next to her bed, with her only a foot away
And she teases me on how I haven't been kissed yet
So she shows me how it feels like, and I remember it being wet
I am standing in the Principle's office
Being scolded for shoving a kid to the ground
Because he called my friend fat

I am standing at the top of the garage steps
Rooting for my dad as he punches the body bag
And he's training to fight the bad guys one day
I am standing at the edge of the creek
Practicing my ninja skills
Trying to snatch any tadpoles that swim by

I am standing on the playground tanbark
Waiting to be unfrozen in time
And when my friend tags me, I run faster than my favorite Superhero
I am standing in the middle of my parents
With one hand in one of their own, and they swing me
Higher than any swing I've ever been on before

I am standing on two roller blades
With my dad guiding me, and he jokes that once I start skating
He'll add rockets
I am standing in my backyard looking down into my telescope
Finding star clusters, planets, and airplanes flying over
And I've never been happier
