I Am From (K.B. Version)

I Am From...

I am from pink cherry blossoms blown in the wind.
From the birds through the sky and chasing rabbits through a field.

I am from fields of daisies and the buzzing of bees, running to a brick house on the other side, holding the soft, warm hand of my little sister.
From yellow flower dresses and pigtails, from smiles of purity and words of reticence.

I am from giggles of shared secrecy with my closest cousin and my younger sister.
From dreams upon high and imagination aplenty.

~

I am from the decay of loved ones, the tears of my family and the innocence of unknowing.
From the sadness of a lifetime and the missing pieces of hearts that will never be forgotten.

~

I am from the dark grey walls of morning, from the light of day peeking through the curtains.

I am from the hours lost and dwindling excitement of waiting for the barking that announced the coming of my father.

I am from the darkness of day, from the lost attention of a mom who pushes us away.

I am from stories of Princesses and love, from shared hours of dolls in a room with my sister.

I am from a world of bought toys and silenced love.
From fantasies too big to grab onto and being told “that will never happen” and “you're not good enough,” from a world of destroyed dreams.

I am from the loneliness of lost love and attention, from the sadness of who we can never get back. From words unspoken, to the secrets now kept to myself.

I am from sitting in a room with a story in my lap, from the thoughts in my head that keep my brain busy.
From the art of individualism and learning to live on my own.
