I Am the Earth

Location

I'm the earth.

I'm seated in my blanket of stars -

Where I should be, in my own place -

The sun shining on my face,

Walking my worn way like the rest are.

I'm each country.

I'm in every continent,

Fitting together like each piece of a jigsaw;

But a few big pieces are gone,

And I don't know where they went.

I am urban.

Also rural and uncharted ground,

Suffocating in my cluttered solitude.

I'm on islands, in deserts, rain forests too;

Walking wilderness where there's no turning around.

I'm a soccer star.

I regret every single missed goal,

Making excuses only I will know.

I'm an adrenaline junkie, skiing the slopes.

Simply trying to fill and seal a hole.

I'm a child.

I'm abandoned on the busy streets,

With the clothes on my back, a Bible, and a knife.

I'm a poor man whose one possession is life,

And I'm the working woman with tired feet.

I am human.

It's every bit of my being -

Lost and confused, but always hopeful.

I'm my head. I'm my heart. I am my soul.

I am part of this world. I am me.
