I’ll be there soon

You know

I’ll be there soon...

It’s not like I’m crossing oceans

Maybe a few lines

Borders designed to separate

Barriers I should respect

But a desire I have to follow

I ignored it once

Just that once

I Denied it

And allowed indifference to comfort me

To put me to bed

And sing me to sleep

Laid down upon a shallow river

I let the cool waters

Drift me toward something empty

Bleak

Floating on the surface of resentment

Until a merciful current

As strong willed as fate

Turbulent and rude

Forced me ashore

To where I was meant to be

And to where I’ll be again

I’ll be there soon

Beneath the lights of my old, oil painted pictures

The same lights I dream illuminate your face

Though I’ve never seen them

Walking streets I know only from

Movies and photographs

But that you stand on daily

I’ll be there soon

Near visions meant to be realized

Near my hopes and wishes

Recently rediscovered

And somewhere near you

Accidentally

But somehow too obviously

For me to have had nothing to do with it

I’ll be there soon

Around you soon

Not for you

But for reasons you adjacent

And if destiny ties us together again

She'll have closed the door on coincidence
