Hypocrisy of the Heroine

Put down the gun

You think you're tough?

I'm tired of books about women.

Strong women

Women who challenge

Women who can't be princesses

Women who can't want children.

Inner strength

So original

Why can't I cry?

Why can't a woman cry?

Girls are encouraged to be strong

Girls are told they are soft.

I'm tired of the same heroine

I'm tired of her stoic face

Her holier-than-thou countenance

Her unaffiliation with men

Her dichotemy of feminism.

People can be soft and strong.

Women can be housewives

Women can be warriors.

Stop the guilt, don't tell me who to be.

I am a woman and I am me.
