Howl 21: For Generation X

I

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, wasted once happy kids, lifeless souls, lifeless monsters, ghosts

who got high on grades, low on life, overdosed on ambition

who got the hereditary disease

who reached for the sky, got there, plateaued, aimed higher, then nosedived

falling imagine dragons where demons hide, cool eyes

who never satisfied, wandered aimlessly through the hallowed halls

chamber to glorious chamber relishing in the glory only to fall again

desecrated by an unfailing emptiness, cuddling comatose

soulless bodies going through the motions haunting halls

fast cars, knife scars, battered bloodied hearts that beat without beating

tanning beds, bottomless alcohol, decayed heart, mind, and soul

headphones in, world out, no silence, no peace, empty mind

zoom blaring only just a dream, zoom blaring blank space, zoom blaring man in the mirror, zoom blaring no church in the wild, zoom blaring zoom blaring blaring blaring noise blaring bad vybz no konshens blaring static nothing noise flatline, silence blaring

who were sacrificed upon the altar before 21 going a little too fast MADD

whose blackness battles still hoped to overcome someday

little fairy princess intsta prostitute @squatsteam

little boy soldier no longer boy, still soldier #babypleasecomehome

who fought on the streets of some abandoned city, brother against brother, for their lives

cut down, drown in brother’s blood

who died before Tetelestai

in the courts, in the heart, mind, soul

forever fighting the riptide bleeding red all red, everything red, the world was color blind but not

Abel’s blood called out: #blacklivesmatter #LGBTQI++livesmatter #whysopolarized #why #why #why #why #why

difference makes the heart grow fonder, but no one cared in the first place

who used to watch Zaboomafoo, Zoom, but those kids are gone

Zamboomafoo died too but Kratts still around

who raised children before they had grown up themselves, got blamed, even though they were only half to blame

who were just another Pecola looked down upon wishing to be beautiful,

it wasn’t her fault, it never was

who looked for love in the wrong places

who needed someone to give them worth, meaning #girlyou’reamazingjustthewayyouare #reasonswhypeopleloveBrunoMars waited for someone to sing them #allofme

where have all the flowers gone, little daisies, edelweiss, father Abraham’s scattered seed

the sea is ready to give up her dead

who set souls aflame on fire burning up with love for all

picking up the trampled flowers a new bouquet

Tetelestai almost time, when will they ever learn?
