How People See Me

White is everywhere.

 I am surrounded, engrossed, captivated.

The walls exude it, the people express it.

They wear it like a badge of honor

 Which it might be.

Boasting in the glory of their ancestors

 Who created the world

They turn and see me.

Black.

 The sore thumb

In a dense cream colored sea.

Feeling like I don’t belong,

I traverse the hidden waters and wonder,

Is this were I should be?

 Among those who are different

Among those who can never understand me.

Yes.

My ancestors who created the world

 Fought for this very moment,

For me.

And I will wear it like a badge of honor

 For everyone to see.

As I traverse through the hidden waters of the sea.
