Honky Tonk Angel

I’m standing in the pouring rain with no umbrella

Bare foot on the bar steps, like a twisted Cinderella

Neon lights and cigarette smoke paint a picture of someone lonely

Steel guitar plays in the distance while the thunder rolls off slowly

Every headlight that glimmers seem like a broken promise

Because he isn’t coming back but to myself I can’t be honest

Never trust man who wears cowboy boots and wranglers

Talks smooth as Marlboro and are whiskey coated danger

Spins you around the dance floor and slow dances to every song

Then come the earliest morning you wake up and he is gone

Say a prayer when you can for those Honky Tonk Angels

Holds on to anything she can from every corner and every angle

Little does she know some men you just can’t change

And you’ll end up like me waiting in the pouring rain
