The Heart

The lonely heart is somewhat naive

But because I love you, it grows like the dawn

Warm, subtle, and so radiant it's entrancing

Because I love you, it means unrestrained mirth

Crooked smiles and dirty dishes left in the sink to be washed later

It means 'it's going to be okay'

And 'we're in this together'

While we hold hands like we're children again

Because I love you, it means seeing you in your yellow jacket

And never seeing the color yellow the same way again

It means looking at you with stars in my eyes

And my heart in my mouth

Even when you look back at me with tears staining your cheeks
