He only takes the best
Location
God saw he was getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around him,
And whispered "Come with me",
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer,
And saw him fade away,
Although we love him dearly,
We could not make him stay,
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best,
Although his heart stopped beating,
His love will always remain,
His absence puts upon our hearts,
A very heavy strain,
For now he is in a place of everlasting rest,
We just have to understand that God,
He only takes the best.

I was drawn to this poem by the title. i jus came from church today and we had talked about the uproar in Ferguson and the boy that was lost. God takes everyone for a reason, a reason we may not understand but it is all apart of his big plan. Rest in peace to your uncle.

Your poem gave me chills as I read it. It makes me think of everyone I've lost thus far and the reasons behind it. We never know why some go so soon and others stay but maybe it's because majority of us have not completed our main mission in life yet. We just never know.
Wow! what a beautiful illustration. it gave me chills and stirred up the Holy Spirit. Thank you for sharing and also declaring. God is good. His mercy endures forever. His ways our higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than ours.

I am sorry for your loss. I admire how your poem expresses so much overbearing emotions to religion and loved ones. I personally connect with this poem. You show how God has a plan for all of us and takes the best. May your uncle rest in peace.

An incredibly similar version of this appeared on my friend's Order of Service. He died in 2012. How then can this poster be the author of this poem judging by the date? I've also seen it attributed elsewhere to Christopher Warnen.
This is amazing. I lost a very loving great grandpa last year and it is still hard to deal with to this day. Thank you for sharing.
This poem sounds all too familiar. Like maybe I've heard it somewhere. Oh wait, I have. It's been around for years.
"God Saw You Getting Tired" by Frances and Kathleen Coelho
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put His arms around you
And whispered "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you
As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
We couldn't make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

wow
Absolutely beautiful! One word that comes to mind is 'haunting,' but in a good way (:
As I read through, I reminisced that day, 3 years ago when my friend was laid to rest. He was definitely the best among us and I always looked up to him and was always proud to know him. He loved God dearly and it showed in his life, 2 years into clinicals (medical school) his time with us was up; because "God only takes the best".
Awesome piece, thanks.

Although you may have added to this poem. It's an original poem by Frances and Kathleen Coelho.
For a long time I buried my hurt deep inside...I would never have thought in a million years I would feel this way. Thank you for letting me feel.

this is my favorite poem my mother read it to me when i was younger. i was six then im now 16 and have it memorized
This poem also reminds of people I've lost, most recently my dad's mom. She was 82 years old when she passed away in her sleep on December 8th, 2015.
