As He Comes Riding

Hush now princess,
Rest your head,
Atop this soft, decrepit bed.
There is no need for shine or gleam
Things aren’t always what they seem.

Older now and not too shy,
What comes now, by and by?
Your prince riding on his faithful steed?
Or the wretch that he just claimed to be?

Hush now princess,
Don’t you peep,
’t is not modest to blatantly speak.
Your value is your painted lip,
And the inches you’ve shaved off your hip.

Wise in years but not in age,
Like a turtle caught in a tiger’s cage.
