A Haunting

I  remember    a  willow
woman, screaming  be-
hind  that    house;  the

 

hair of my youth  stand-
ing stiff, freezing  faux-
poplar      white  like the

 

dead tree    her  cognac 
husband  planted in the
yard —        circa 1957.
