We live in a generation
where our worth is based on the worth of our phone
and the generation or price of our iHome
But not the worth of our mind
and intellectual finds
Who knew that with the rising touch screens
we'd actually lose even more touch in what life really means?
We have our Twitter and facebooks
MySpace and kindle nooks
The Instagram and the youtubes
And virtual sensuality in pornographic nudes
The value of our thoughts
replaced
with the hashtag
Where we can hyperlink our emotions
so we don't feel as bad
About the concept that our numbness is overwhelming our soul
And the only way we can feel
Is through the blank screen of an iPhone
Our beauty is portrayed through the angle of our pics
No longer is modesty worth a low cut shirt we don't want to fix
Our lives have become something more than black and white
And I'm not referring to our filters
but what we see through our sight
Ignorance is a bliss
and so is the level of brightness
As you edit your photos to improve on its lightness
But not the lightness of your heart as you've become hard as stone
You only find comfort in the timeline you call home
Our chronological life has turned almost ironic
We're becoming more primitive, and ignorance is our tonic
The lack of emotion and the amount of speech
Is replaced by applications like direct message and keek
We're walking voids with no purpose and as cold as the winter
Yet we have
the audacity
to comment hashtag no filter
But true beauty and perfection does not lie on my social account
Or the angle of my picture and my edits I can't renounce
Because my worth is pronounced through the words of my mouth
And I am my own beauty
And this Ill never doubt
The value of my selfie
Will never define what's written in stone
And you can't hyperlink my worth
with a hashtag or an
iPhone
