GUARD MY SOUL

Guard My Soul: by Paul Gray

To write upon her beating heart
Could not break through the glass
Which stands betwixt the two of us
So poisoned by our past

With wanton eyes I gaze upon
Her face and every feature
While hate ensures she finds in me
A loathsome woeful creature

What have I done to so deserve
This gods forsaken fate
And bear the brunt of her distrust
Emblazoned by such hate

Oh Lord, when evening shadows rest
Upon my deathbed sleeping
Preserve this love inside my heart
And guard my soul from weeping
