GROWING OLDER

I am getting older, after all I’m applying to college.

But early on this made me want to jump off a ledge.

Being a child was fun no doubt,

But time passes and it’s a waste to pout.

I’d used to wait to shower till I smelt rancid,

Until I learned you cannot forever be a kid.

I faced scary dark adulthood. I got employed.

I had no money, and in my time there was a void.

No longer allowed a sugar high, no longer allowed recess

I had to grow up, I’ve got to dress to impress.

That not to say it’s just about looks,

I also have to learn the lessons lacking from books.

Without parents to instruct me, my goals must be reached

The time has come to be on my own, to educate myself.

Now my mom’s not there to get my whites bleached,

Things have changed, acting childish must remain on a shelf.
