Ghost

Passion unparalleled
You linger
I swear I catch your scent
In the air
On my skin
The wind whispers my name
In what sounds like your voice
I turn in that direction
Find nothing but mist
I’m chasing ghosts

You dance across the
Landscape of my dreams
But like a sunset
You are long gone
Before I ever reach the horizon

Instead, I trudge on,
Hoping to escape
To a land where you
Have no jurisdiction
Knowing if you cared to find me,
If you knocked on my heart’s door,
It would swing wide open
Before I
Could instruct it otherwise

My lips do not have permission
To utter your name
But my skin whispers it
In the dead of night,
Longing still
No one
Has ever
Had a grip on me
Like you do
Even now
