Getting To The Thick of It
I summon the spirits of the Chicago Seven,
Abbe Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, among others
Into this room.
I bring them back and as much as I try it's impossible
It's the spirit, not the person
that needs to be released into the world.
Where is fresh and creative dissent?
Our protests are partisan and boring,
they don't capture the underbelly of America,
the issues that effect a whole nation.
The system today is not representative of
the everyday laborer
Who finds themselves working more
than what they are paid.
Some who are lucky to have a weeks
vacation paid by their employer
Merit based vacation hours keeps some
gasping for the next getaway.
Whenever that may be.
The words of free Enterprise and freedom
are almost used interchangeablely and
the business owner is everyone's
sacred relic hanging from their
mouths.
The religious fervor that the constitution
excites makes it an idol
sitting on the back of humanity
humanity being the crucial
piece to any legislation.
The sufferings of capitalist labor
Are put aside in a
cloud of their fleeting desires
offered by the system which
crushes them and does little
to make good and in act
in conscience
