Garden of Life

In the garden of life

There were four flowers

Unlikely to be seen growing together

Yet they all stood out amongst the weeds

A Scorpion grass who asked, “Forget me not”

Very dainty, very versatile

The strongest of the patch

Yet she was the first to wilt

A Rosoideae who was beautiful in appearance

Everyone’s first choice

But be warned of her thorns

If you get too close, you’ll get hurt

A Lavandula who was soothing and serene

Loved by many, but not by all

For her scent was very particular

Too much of a good thing is toxic

A Helianthus who stood tall with an optimistic outlook

In deep infatuation with the sun

And she loved it almost as much as she loved herself

A head that would get too heavy for her slim stem

The crushing weight of reality on her shoulders

The inevitable realization of who she really was

The impending decision she was left to make

The selfish motivation behind her own desires

Scorpion grass—her will too weak

Rosoideae—her thorns too sharp

Lavandula—her scent too strong

Helianthus—her head too big

In the garden of life

There were four flowers

Unlikely to be seen growing together

So they learned why they were meant to grow apart
