Friend

Some nights I'll take off and soar up so high

My happiness a paintbrush on the early morning sky

Watercolor pink and gold are so bright

On the canvas of dark blue and violet night

Joy so vibrant it makes colors burst

But also a sadness that can't disperse.

Other days I float slowly up in the air

Wondering why it is that I'm drifting there

I cast a large shadow to cover my pain

And let loose a torrential downpour of rain.

But that disappears

Whenever you're near

The thunderstorm's gone; the sky is clear.

I feel so much better now that you're here.

You're the sun peeking out from under cloud cover

Those times when I see you I can't help but wonder

At this breathtaking sight

How is it possible, I think, to shine this bright?

You're incredibly radiant during the day

Your love warms the world as it turns your way.

Yet you're equally brilliant and perfect at night

A distant and pale yet shimmering light.

There's something about you, but what could it be?

It makes you super extra special to me.

There's not one single person that's quite like you

Not one single person that does what you do.

You're different, you're the best kind of you you can be

It's a beautiful thing that I hope you can see.

I leave these words with you, my greatest of friends

I want you to have them; they're true to the end.

I love you, my friend, and it wouldn't be right

Not to thank you for being such a light in my life.
