Friday Night Lights

Stretch and yawn

it is the break of dawn

It is a cool fallday, in the middle of october

I slide into my cheerleading uniform

as i begin my school day

I walk the halls and spot the players in jerseys

no surprise

quickly the last bell rings

just like that it is a Friday Night

I can smell the paint that lays the yard lines

it is fresh and it is bright

just like the lights that shine over me

it is football season

and every person in this small town can feel the excitement

chills have taken over my body

our school song has began

the crowd is roaring as the ball is kicked

the crowd roars again as the winning touchdown is made

what a beautiful site

school pride is overflowing in our town

it is monday morning again as i am dragging out of bed

begging for a friday night

as i wake stretch and yawn

friday whispers, i am near
