Frenemy

Nostalgia is our best friend,

And also our enemy.

Constantly flooding our minds with memories.

The sound of a clock going tik, tik, tik, takes us back to the times we played tick tack toe on the floor;

When we were only four.

Or five, or six.

All these memories could make me sick.

As if I’m on a never ending roller-coaster down memory lane.

Somehow this nostalgia is what’s keeping me sane.

So keep me here, don’t move me.

If I go, I fear I’ll lose me.

The me that lives in my head, the one I can no longer see.

Nostalgia, hold my hand.

Take me back to the time I had my feet in the sand.

I follow you,

You follow me.

Till the end of time it will always be you and me.

When I was born,

We wed in holy matrimony.

Till death do us part,

You swore to never let me forget what is in my heart.

Dammit, why won’t you leave?

You always remind me of times,

Just leave me be.

You’ll always be my friend.

A part of my identity.

But you are also my enemy,

For you will never grant me serentity.

Forever my frenemy.
